However, I live around Latin Americans and I would liked to be able to speak to them on everyday issues, such as weather, school, family and kids,housing and etc. The product is worth it if you travel.
I was, however, appalled at the cost of the more advanced CD sets and will not be able to continue with Pimsleur. Having taken Spanish 1 and studied on my own from teach-yourself books, I found Pimsleur's Basic Spanish CD set pretty easy, though it was good for practicing pronunciation. I think this would be more useful for true beginners.
But we expected there to be more lessons or at least more content in each lesson so that he would have been able to speak more of the language at the end.Maybe there could have been more of a description of the content and the level and amount of the language being taught. I bought this product for my 14 year-old son since he was having problems with his spanish class at school. The product was good in terms of teaching basic spanish and he was able to pick up the lessons quite easily.
I have never taken spanish in school. I have done each lesson twice, just to make sure I have it before moving on. I am only through lesson 4 and I feel like it is very easy and that I am making good progress. I am just substituting "mucho gusto" for "encantada" when I respond out loud for example.
The speakers diction is great and easy to understand. I think that has helped me not become too frustrated. Because it keeps you from just stashing the info in your short term and moving on. I would recommend this for those that have no spanish background. You have to keep going back and grabbing the word. I work in health care and really want to be able to communicate with my spanish patients.
I really like the graduated recall. After I complete this, I think I will try Behind the Wheel Spanish. However I wish it were Latin American spanish instead of the more formal version that is used here. I could see how the slow pace would frustrate those of you that have had spanish in high school or college, but for someone who has never had that background.I find the pace perfect.

If I had known Spanish could be so easily learned, I would have been studying it years ago, but meanwhile, this terrific package has me thrilled that I've learned it at last. You'll be stunned with the results. It's positively brilliant. After just one brief session working with these audio CDs, I spoke Spanish to a Spanish co-worker whose jaw dropped in amazed delight.
